Ok, there are 2 parts of the deal, one from Dell Home, one from Dell EPP. ~~Dell EPP part is not active yet, but Dell Home is.~~

This is brand new Intel quad-core Nehalem based CPU, which has 4 physical Cores, with 2 threads per core ("virtual" 8-core CPU). It uses Socket 1366.

Chances are, this uses Intel X58 chipset. Just to give you an example, here is what Newegg has to offer motherboard wise ($220 and up)

The CPU itself retails for $320ish right now.

You decide if it's worth it, but if you want new tech, this won't be easy to beat right now.

Even if the upgrade will not be free, it should be $50 or so, I would guess. You can't drive it lower, since you can not place an order at EPP right now.

Me too, given that i7 is still considered to be a enthusiast level processor.
I wonder when Dell is releasing its Inspiron range of desktops with i7s, given the state of the economy !

they brought back hyperthreading so there are 4 cores and 8 threads. The only way you will use this processor fully is if the software uses at least 5 threads. Kind of like the C2D being quicker that the C2Q in some instances. Not everything knows how to use that much power. Pretty cool though... feel bad for all the people who just spend $1200 on the C2Q Extreme.

Blahman, [2] PCI-E x16 on Intel's board and I'm sure EVGA has 2 or 3 PCI-E x16...excuse me...PCI-E 2.0...MSI probably has 1 PCI-E x16 because they're MSI

triple channel RAM has nothing to do with the RAM itself. The Board is CHANNEL A B C. Some boards have 4 DIMMs some have 6 DIMMs. Selling RAM in packs of 3 makes it ?convenient? Boards can support 16GB under 64-bit OS

. I'm not sure how the 3+1 works...ie channel A B C and the left-over is assigned to what, user specification? DDR3 prices [as well as timings] needs to fall like LCDs prices are...please.

It doesn't have to be installed in threes. You just won't get (currently minimal) triple channel benefits, that's all.
