Linspire 5.0 available for download for free. Use coupon code "LycorisWelcome"
The download version is usually $49.95 the retail box version $10 more.

You can also use this coupon for the retail for $10 plus shipping.

Please note:

Linspire is not for hardcore linux users. It is commercialized. Some say it should be free like most other linux distros. But it is also easier to use for newbies (like me) It detected all my hardware on installation without any tweaking. It's a great way to try linux.

You can also download (for free) the "live" cd to see how it works on your system. Definition of Live CD [google.com]

Linspire has offered free downloads before. They will prolly do it again in the future.

There are arguable better distros out there for newbies which are fairly user friendly and which are always free.

Thanks, got it. Linspire looks like it's a really decent OS for someone who doesn't have a bunch of windows only applications that they need to run.

another misunderstanding that is prevalent!
remeber it's
"free as in speech Not free as in beer"

Click 'n' run is great to introuduce pepole to doing things, but under the hood is the linux kernal that all have.

Nice find, Diego- Thanks! I was looking to rebuild an old PC and put it to work as a music server, and was going to try my hand at Linux. Might as well see how this works first. Smilie

Has anyone used Linspire before? Any comment about the OS?

If you don't want to screw with registering to download, use free user names/passwords. (i.e., since the accounts are free, it's not illegal)

It's got all the eye candy but will take a little to lean it out to run on a old computer.
remember to read the system requirements and like any program windows mac or linux add 25% so it will run ok. this ones requirements are(i think) on par with XP.
figgure amd XP processer or P4 1 gig, 128Mb(please use at Least 256!)hdd etc

Go to "My account" and look for something about your downloads. I forget exactly what it said now, but the reason you had to create an account was so you can log in and "get" your download. Wink

Three comments:

1) Nice find, I used 4.5 and will now give 5.0 a try.

2) These guys charge an annual fee for access to their "Click and Run" warehouse, which is the only easy way to install new programs.

3) Ubuntu linux is just as user friendly, more free, and looks better.
