This is interesting, from the Official Rules: Information collected from entrant is used only for the purpose of the prize drawing and to notify the winner and will not be re-used, sold or shared in any manner by America Online, Inc., (the “Sponsor”), Marden-Kane, Inc., or any third parties. Once the Sweepstakes has ended, all information supplied by entrants will be removed from the database.
Usually I avoid online sweepstakes because you're basically trading your contact info in return for your chance to win. In this case AOL is saying they will actually use your info ONLY for this contest, then throw it away. Amazing.
I think I'm gonna do a whois on the URL anyway before I give them any of my info.
There is indeed a link from www.aol.com. There is a tab on the front page that says SWEEPS go there and the above link is there....looks clean.
Good eye. That means it's legit enough for me. And as for being an AOL customer - it says no purchase necessary, and that anyone in the 48 states is eligible...so after skimming it I didn't see anything about customers.
