a real one... there were only like 15 million produced. plus there are different grades.

as a caution to everyone. the ammo is corrosive. which means if you shoot a box of it and let it sit in your gun safe for a month you can damage the lining of the barrel.

the corrosive element is the primer. there is a mercury salt in the primer that helps makes it water proof. if you clean your gun thoroughly and regularly its not an issue. the best way to care for your rifle when using this ammo is to pour a gallon of water down the barrel while still warm. the water will dissolve the salt and wash it away. that is the nice thing about salts, they are ionic and dissolve easily in water.

the other note about this ammo and most in this caliber. its dirty, filthy and incredibly dirty. it takes much longer to get a clean bore than modern 30-06 ammo (which has roughly the same powder).

another note before firing. it comes with a tool to check the firing pin depth. use it!!! if the firing pin punctures the primer you can get a blow back. also make sure you clean it good to make sure you get all the cosmoline out of the barrel and bolt.

if you suffer from "sticky bolt syndrome", clean it again very carefully. if you still suffer from it, have the headspace checked by a gunsmith. the ammount of pressure created can be fatal to you. if the headspace is wrong you can actually have the bolt shot out the back and into your neck.

i've had 2 no problems, but there is a lot to know about owning a rifle and the older they are the more TLC they need.
