The full version protects a lot more than the free one. In fact I got a virus while using the free one and had to do a fresh install.

I switched from AVG (full version) to ESET NOD32 cause AVG is more of a hardware hog. But for free it's certainly worth getting.

It's odd you say AVG is a hardware hog when it's actually smaller in size vs. others with the same features.

I read through all of the fine print in the $20 rebate figuring this must be one of those upgrader rebates like Symantec always has and which I always ignore. I didn't read anything like in the rebate, so given that Newegg doesn't charge sales tax in my state, it's really $19.99 - $20 rebate which is free in the end. That makes this hard to pass up.

I didn't read the features in great detail other than to see that this retail version is supposed to have more features than the free version. It's nice to have a 2 year license instead of the usual 1 year with most others. The main downside I see is it's only for 1 computer, so I may end up putting the free version on the others.

just use avast!, its always free and better then AVG

ive been using the free version of AVG for about 2 years now with no problems. the most important part is the automatic updates it d/l's and installs to make sure you are protected. the only other program i use ( for system protection/maintenance) is spybot search + destroy ( also free ) this is one is really good at finding and eliminating spyware and most importantly immunizing my browsers. ( ie/firefox ) it protects my cookies literally. if you really love rebates then go ahead and do this one its free after all...

Why bother with a rebate when you can get AntiVir for free.

The newest version does both Antivirus and Spyware. It usually ranks very high in comparisons. It does have an annoyance however. Every time it does an update, it will show a large ad. This can be disabled by following the following instructions after installation.
