if I'm looking for just a basic router that I can hook up 2-3 laptops so I can use my laptops around the house, would this suffice? I keep reading/hearing about all this regarding ddrt, tomato, potato, carrots, asapargus etc etc, so I don't know if I should or need to get a router that can do all that stuff.

 this is a network switch (gigabit)For your needs, if you do not already have a router, this would be worthless. Purchase a Linksys WRT54GL or something along those lines... there are usually deals on other routers as well. |

Does anyone know if there is a different in quality and reliability of the higher models? I've been looking for an 8 or 16 port gigabit switch to put in my new home networking closet. I'm thinking 16 might be better:
2 pcs 2 xboxs 2 Linksys media center extenders 1 internet connection possibly laptop or network drive / printer So I might run out at 8. I don't really want a managed switch, but want something that should run 24/7 for a long time without problems. I've been looking at the JG516, but this might be better for now. |
