XP is stable if you have someone who can make it stable, but I've had a lot of problems with XP since I first started using it in 2001 especially when I started dealing with it in a business environment.

The fact that some problems can be so severe as to require a reinstallation of the OS is my main concern. Memory leaks are far more prevalent in XP than in Vista and sometimes it seems impossible to fix without reinstalling the entire system. XP is still the main target of viruses and exploits, which doesn't bode well when you have a staff of ignorant computer users. XP, right now, is a frankenstein's monster of patches of patches of patches. This has made the OS far more sluggish than it used to be. We used to run XP just fine on P4 2.4Ghz computers with 256mb of memory, but each subsequent service pack requires more processing power, rendering old computer obsolete or requiring expensive upgrades (DDR400 is expensive to purchase for a bunch of office computers). We had to upgrade many of the office computers because of this very, specific problem.
