If you go to a runners store, you will get a better fitting shoe, and you can walk around and make sure it isn't hard under the bridge too close to your toes, and that they aren't too heavy. Some stores check for pronation/supination also, and can recommend specific models that will greatly increase your comfort. Once you know what you like, then you can bargain shop. A bargain shoe that is unusable is no bargain. I personally think lighter is better, so I get Mizuno and Adidas. Sometimes a really nice pair of Nike are on sale, and I like them also. My foot width is narrow and Nike/Mizuno tend to run narrow and small. If you are +225, Nike Air Max 180 appear to me to be the models of choice at 5k and 10k road runs. They are heavy, though. Since I can't help it, I will offer additional advice- Always, always, always run so that you are facing oncoming traffic in your lane. You want to see what hits you! Stretch your back, hams, and calves before and after. Tank up on water 2 hours prior to running. |

For the younger crowd or the ignorant.. it's all about image most of the time, and they will get Nike's over New Balance, Asics, and brooks..
I too was like this and never even considered the other brands. But try them on and you might be surprised at how much more comfortable they are compared to the more expensive nike brand. |
