I got the DVE power plug.

Directions to load dd-wrt (from dd-wrt installation page [dd-wrt.com]):
Step 1: Download the mini version of DD-WRT version 24, build 12121, new driver in the dot CHK format here [dd-wrt.com].

Step 2: Flash the firmware to your router using Netgear's factory firmware standard web interface. Note that to successfully flash this device, you may need to use IE or Firefox 3 or higher. sparkie has reported in the thread linked above that Firefox 2 will not work with the Netgear factory web upgrade page to flash this device.

Step 3: If the mini build is insufficient for your needs, you may download your preferred flash BIN file from here [dd-wrt.com]. Then flash up the new .BIN file using the DD-WRT web interface from the Administration tab, then the Firmware Upgrades tab.

In explicit detail:

* Turn on your computer, log in, download the required dd-wrt firmware file in .chk format
* Turn on the router, give it two minutes to boot up
* Disconnect your computer from any previous routers/modems, etc...
* Connect your computer to the router via a LAN cable, being careful to use one of the 4 LAN jacks on the router (not the WAN or Internet jack)
* If your computer is set up for DHCP, give it a minute to find the router and retrieve an address. If you're not sure if your computer is set up for DHCP, it probably is.
* Attempt to connect to 192.168.1.1 (I'm 90% sure that's the default address of the router). Do that by going to your web browser and typing 192.168.0.1 in the address bar like any other Internet address and pressing ENTER. If your browser tells you the address was not found, try 192.168.0.1 and routerlogin.net. If those still don't work, reboot your computer and try again. If that still doesn't work, make sure your computer is set for DHCP.
* You should get prompted to enter a user ID and password. I believe the defaults are "admin" and "password" - other users place chime in if I'm wrong.
* You should then be logged into the router. Netgear routers will attempt to search for firmware updates automatically, just cancel out of it.
* On the left side of the screen, choose Router Upgrade (I think that's what it's called)
* Point it at the downloaded .chk file and tell it to upgrade
* Sometimes after a successful upgrade you'll get the dd-wrt screen embedded within the left and top frames of the netgear firmware screen. It's very confusing. Be sure to follow the directions in the dd-wrt screen to update the ID and password, then enter 192.168.1.1 in the address bar to clear out the netgear frames and get you to a "normal" dd-wrt screen.

To take apart:

1. Remove the two miniature Torx screws from the bottom of the router. Use a Torx bit or a small/jewelers screwdriver to back them out slightly, then you can use a pair of pliers to finish removing them. It's not necessary to re-install them, the side panels snap on quite well without them.

2. Pull the bottom of the frame down a bit and pry off the side panels starting at the front of the router.

3. The hardest part is there's another Torx screw hiding behind the label on the back (near the top), and you'll never get the back of the side panel off first. Take the front off first, and the side panel will pull away off this hidden Torx screw. When re-installing the side panels, slide the back side onto the screw first and finish at the front.

4. One of the two side panels has two antennas attached to it, but there is a bit of slack. Just be careful not to completely yank the side panels off before you know which one has the antennas on it.

5. Once it's open, re-seat the PC-card into the slot and also be certain the antenna pigtails (U.FL connectors) are firmly seated on the PC-card sockets. The v1 did not have a center antenna, so don't be concerned it's missing/not connected.

6. If you really want to install the center antenna, PM me and I'll send you one in the mail. I think I still have one or two on another Netgear Marvell-based router I'm not using.

I was able to do successful recovery from dd-wrt to netgear firmware by using this:

Set your LAN to static. Set it to...
IP - 192.168.1.230
Subnet - 255.255.255.0
Gateway (you could also leave blank) - 192.168.1.1

Then try to ping 192.168.1.1 and see if you can get a ping response. If you can, then you may be able to upload the original firmware with tftp like I did (see links on the wiki page):

RECOVERY PROCESS VIA PIN SHORT

Short pins 16 & 17
Power up router
Open two command prompt/console windows
Start a ping of the router, it should respond with TTL=100
Initiate TFTP upload of a .chk file (DD-WRT or one of the stock Netgear ones)
Immediately remove the short
You will know that the transfer was completed and the flash process is working when router power light blinks amber on and off once per second. After a few minutes, the router will begin to respond with a ttl=64 ping and will be functional again.

You will have to open up the router to go back to netgear firmware. Just remove the two screws at the bottom, insert something thing in the bottom holes to get the tabs to pry, then insert screw on the top area between the clear plastic "shield" pry this, then go to the right of the router being careful to pry this. There is a metal screw type thing that holds the right side in place, you have to pry it at an angle so that the inner tab doesn't break.
