$100 seems to be the magic number for rock-bottom monitor sale prices, ranging from 17" all the way to the occasional 22".

I doubt that a 20" monitor is going to make many people's socks roll up and down, but when you consider the after coupon price is about 1/2 of what you'd normally pay for a 22" monitor, the price is definitely right. I've never owned one, but I hear Acers are great. 3-year warranty is a nice bonus, too.

If a 20" display will get the job done for you, go for it.

I know, I kind of prefer 16:10 too since it is a nice compromise between movies and everything else. But if you look at it from a manufacturers point of view 16:9 is the greatest thing ever. It gives them a little marketing edge and it is actually cheaper for them to make (less surface area of expensive LCD for the given diagonal size)

Plus they don't have to knock themselves out giving it 1:1 pixel mapping

I'm really not that broken up about it, I can practically make up the difference by setting my Windows 7 start bar to auto-hide... or dock on the left side.

I love all these great monitor deals that have been popping up. I remember 7 years ago when my super hip creme colored CRT blew up and I bought a 17" CRT monitor for $130... and that was a relatively good deal at the time because it had a flat screen! Now if you are using a CRT, you're kind of in the stone age... or in the early 2000s... haha

i remember in the late-90s when i started grad school my advisor was drooling over flat panel plasma monitors, waiting for the price to come down from 6k so that he could be the envy of his department.

Stupid question: Is it possible to do instore return on an item that was purchased online? I don't want to get stuck with a monitor with a dead pixel.
