The motherboard has integrated audio, video, and HDMI, so this seems like a pretty good start to a nice dual core desktop or even a HTPC.

The 780G Chipset that this MOBO has can handle 1080P, I even saw a review showing how it could handle 1080P with a Sempron 3500. If this MOBO was a MiniATX I would have already bought it, but seeing that it is an ATX and wont fit in the case that I want (and within the size limitation set by my wife) I wont be getting it.

Go for the newer Phenom II also on sale, today and recently. But given price this isn't that bad of a setup and deal to breath life into an empty case with a PSU and a DVD drive. Could be a decent HTPC also.

Yes you will need one because the CPU is OEM. You will just get the processor.

It is actually based off of the Phenom. The Athlon X2s never had an L3 cache.
