Samsung 50" Plasma 720p $777 HDTV + $150 Shipping

my friend has this TV in his ski shop at Sunday River in Maine. He is in love with it, and whoever speaks ill of the 720p must have great vision, because I have a 42in vizio 1080i, and I regret spending 900 on that and not buying this, this blows mine out of the water visually and aesthetically!

Both these TV's are reduced today. The Samsung is slightly cheaper if you don't have tax. Newegg has the LG. I'm ready to move and given up on a 1080p (50" never gets below $1000, 46" LCD does but I like this better).

Anyone know how they compare?

I've been in the market for a TV this size and can't tell the difference at my seating distance of 12+ feet. Other than blu-ray your actual TV viewing will typically be input at 720p or 1080i. I kind of prefer the Panasonic X1 series but plenty of people like the Sammy. I think there are some eagle eyed experts and a lot of sheeple that go along with bigger is better. My 2cents but I don't think 720 is a problem if you are at a decent seating distance.

No, no, no. If you overspent on a TV because it had features you didn't really need, you're not supposed to admit it. You're supposed to go into every TV thread and vehemently defend those features while berating anyone who says they don't need them.

I believe he was originally referring to how bad connecting a computer to a 50in 720P would be. Because it all honesty, it does look terrible when you try to use it as a monitor.

720p is great for watching movies and television purposes. He was referring to using it as a monitor which includes surfing the web and more.
