Where is the best place to buy a suit?

I need to buy my first suit for interviews and such. I was wondering where the best place to go for quality and price? Also should you buy more then one if you are starting with none?

I've always gotten the best deals at Macy's. They occasionally have good coupons which can be stacked on top of sales. Last time around my wife picked me up a $600 Ralph Lauren suit for about $100 out the door. Tailoring on the suit almost cost as much as the suit itself.

For just getting started with interviews/weddings/funerals, I'd definitely recommend starting out with one decent quality suit (and have it tailored.) For my first five years out of college I got by on one navy two piece suit...that one saw a lot of weddings and caskets.

I agree that Macy's always have very good sales on suits. Their own Alfani line are nice quality. You can often get an Alfani suit for about $200 or less.

The best deals on suits are usually at high-end department stores when they have close-out sales. However cheap JC Penny sits are known to look more expensive than they are.

Get one more suit than you need to wear per week, and if you're buying a suit only because of a work requirement, don't get anything wierd that will look out of style. IOW no lapels that are too wide or too narrow, are short, or are not notched. A good quality suit can last decades.

I always go to Men's Warehouse. I hate shopping and it's nice to go to one place that is dedicated to suits and business clothing.

Plus they'll alter it on the premises, often while you wait. Syms does too.

Was the best $300 bucks I spent for my last job when i had to wear a suit to work! Looks real nice too. I got brown, gray, and black.

Fabric market in Shanghai... Handmade suit for <$100, just can't beat that. Just as long as you don't count the $1000 airfare to go each way.

That aside, go to Macy's - they always have a sale and the quality is adequate for what you need and what is expected of you at your age and career stage.

I think every area has a place like that but the suits are usually pure crap. I went in to take a look once and I wouldn't spend $50 on some of the suits that had. The pants wouldn't even hold a seam and the jackets just fit poorly and were half falling apart (no joke, some of them literally had loose threads and the arms coming apart on the hanger!). Plus the shirt/tie/hankie/socks are crap too.
