Where to buy Extended Warranty for LCD TV !

mikez51 185 August 18, 2009 at 04:26 PM
I bought Samsung LCD TV for $1400 few days back from Amazon and would like to buy extended warranty from third parties as Amazon does not sell it.
Please help me with some reliable companies who offers extended warranty on TVs purchased anywhere (I found TedUnlimited [tedunlimited.com] and DTVExpress [dtvexpress.com] but not sure how good they are ..)

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

SquareTrade is pretty good. They're also pretty cheap.

And you can get 30% off today of any warranty (up to $50 off).

How does SquareTrade work? Why can they offer warranties so much cheaper?

They work like any other warranty company: your stuff breaks, you contact them, they fix it.

And they can do that because the odds something breaks is low, plus they aren't trying to scam you out the wazoo on add-ons like Best Buy does because they are losing on the regular profit.

You should be able to get an add'l year w/ a AMEX or Visa plat/sig: however, for longer warranties - chaps at avsforums seem to swear by Mack CPS or Mack - per avsforums [avsforum.com]

So I'm guessing regular retailers are choosing to simply ignore SquareTrade (and charge uncompetitive rates) atm because SquareTrade is still pretty unknown

Somewhat. Or, they're banking on people in the store hearing "you can add 3 years of protection to your $500 TV/laptop/whatever for just $120" and jumping on that offer, instead of looking around for the best deal. It's amazing how much being lazy will end up costing someone.

Hell, my aunt just bought me a new TV for my dorm room. She paid the extra $30 for a 3-year warranty at Walmart, which is what it is at SquareTrade (roughly). You're getting a warranty from a company that isn't going anywhere and that you likely have within a few miles.

But mostly, it's the B&M stores taking advantage of the clueless shopper. Why else would BB and Wal-mart and all those stores be able to charge extremely high for things like HDMI cables, Ethernet cables, flash drives, etc. and yet still get people to buy them?

If I had a nickel for every person that I've heard scammed in the local Best Buy, I'd probably be able to buy the store just to demolish it.
