For those of you who experienced Playon glitches following the release of the updated Wii software last week, a new release of Playon was made available last Friday. Works like a dream. Excellent little program for a very reasonable price.

Tversity, while an excellent alternative, does not stream Netflix. Playon does. Make your choices accordingly.

FYI this works with more than just consoles, any PnP/DLNA compatible system, including XBMC.

For folks with Netflix accounts and who want a more elegant solution to Stream Netflix, Amazon VOD and MLB TV, all in HD, look at the Roku Player, which costs $99 ($115 with shiiping) at Roku.com [roku.com]. Roku will NOT stream anything else.

Folks who think a laptop is good enough to connect to a TV as opposed to using Playon and a game console will miss out on the simplicity, not to mention aesthetics. Playon streams in automatic full screen and no browsers to fiddle with. It also streams Netflix in HD (no idea how) whereas PC/Laptop in browser mode will NOT do HD for Netflix.

Other Options:
- PS3 Media Server - Best streaming software for streaming content from your PC. It even plays ISO images of movies since it transcodes on the fly and works really well over wifi. To stream HD without transcoding, you will need a wired connection. This will not do ANY web streaming like Netflix, Hulu etc
- Tversity - It is good enough to stream content from your PC but is horrible for Netflix/Hulu. You can actually hear the sound on the PC as it is transcoding the Netflix/Hulu
- If you have an Xbox360, it does natively stream Netflix but I am not aware of any other web streaming available. So playon may be useful for non-netflix web sites. For netflix streaming you do need a Xbox Live gold membership which costs $30-$50 a year.
- Windows Vista/Windows 7 Media center streams Netflix in HD but need a PC or Laptop with HDMI/Components connections next to your TV

You need a Netflix account to stream Netflix and a Hulu account to stream Hulu. You will be using your online account queues to provide viewing options on Playon.

Basically, you download the software to your PC. For me, my PC and my Wii are wirelessly connected through a router. The Playon software allows my PC to stream to the Wii, through my router. Super nice to watch online movies or TV shows on a full-sized TV for a change.

This streams Hulu, Netflix, Revision3, and many other sites while TVersity is for streaming your local files. They really do two different things.

Atleast for me this is better then TVersity..pciture quality from TVersity on my wii was not good at all..there was lag all the time..but with Playon its smoooth..
