Onkyo HT-RC 160 receiver with Ipod Dock 349.99

Newegg has this receiver on a pretty good deal especially if you want the Ipod Dock. This is not a refurb either. It is very similar to the TX SR607. The main difference is that this has 5 HDMI ports and the 607 has an extra one on the front. The 607 also has 90 watts per channel vs 80 watts for this one. Onkyo is very conservative on their power ratings however. I had a 110 watt Sony receiver that sounded much less powerful then the 80 Watt Onkyo that replaced it.

How Does the HTRC160 Compare to Other Onkyo Receivers?

The Onkyo HTRC160 is similar to the popular Onkyo TX-SR607 and has almost all of the same features. However, the HTRC160 trades a different styling on the volume knob, one less HDMI input, 10 fewer watts per channel, and lack of satellite radio support for a more affordable package and is perfect as an entry-level high-end receiver.

You'll spend quite a bit more for a Yamaha with HDMI repeater (not sure if Yammy even offers it, even the 1065 has pass-thru $800)

The Denon 1910 is close to the 607 ... sometimes found under $400
(got mine for $380 from 6th ave - name your price)

For those wondering about this whole HDMI repeater vs. pass-thru thing:
pass-thru = needs sep audio connection aka toslink or coax for the audio = these are compressed audio connections ... but the video is passed thru unaltered (some purist would say this is better for vid)
repeater (generally preferred by most) = 1 HDMI connects audio and video = uncompressed sound, but the receiver has to process the audio from video and then repeats it back through the output.

or at least that's how I understand it ... I'm sure the flamers will set me straight either way

...
