I don't know a lot on the home theater systems...sorry ...but I do know that Sony is a good brand name. I would not hesitate purchasing from them, and have in the past.
In fact, my DVD player is a Sony, as are a few other "tech" items I own. But not a theater system.

I'm sure someone knows something about the theater system that can provide feedback. Another thing I would do is look at the reviews. Both on Sony's site, and via a Google search.

what you have to decide here is if that bluray player is really worth $200, since the HT-IS100 has gone on sale several times in the past 6 months for $200.

As a warning to anyone interested, these speakers do NOT sound good. We had a hard time selling them, and they are no longer carried because no one wanted them once they heard them. Yes, they're small, but the sound is garbage. (I suppose this is all personal opinion, but I know I'm not alone in that opinion.

Sony does make good video products, but they are not as well known for their audio. Most people will see their "entry level" products, which tend to either sound awful (like these speakers) or be VERY bass heavy (designed for Rap, Rock, and R&B music) where the subwoofer jumps out over the other speakers as opposed to blending in and simply "evening out" the sound.

That being said, Sony does have some good audio products (especially receivers), but they are on the higher end (usually over $1000) that most mainstream customers aren't willing to spend for their sound system (which never makes much sense to me, since you get more from the audio than the video of a TV show, movie, or game). If you want a decent "home theater in a box" system, go check out what more mainstream audio companies offer, like Yamaha, Onkyo, or even a Harmon/Kardon & JBL package. Not only will you get better sound, but it's actually upgradable, so if one part goes out you don't have to scrap the whole system and start over (like you do with those box systems that have a built-in DVD).
