0.3Mp camera is bearable to me, but i expect bluetooth/hdmi connectivity for a laptop like this... probably will end up picking up an acer 1410 w/ su2300 soon...

yea, it's a good looking laptop ...but it's 13.3", 100$ more, and has SU3500 processor, which doesn't compare to the su7300. For those specs, I could get a 380$ acer and save myself 200$. good for some, not for me.

If I didn't already pick up an Acer w/ SU2300 I'd be all over this, nice stats indeed.

You mean the $380 Acer AS1410 after cash back vs. this $580 Asus (+ $75 gift card)?

They are quite different prices, no?

The Acer 1810t and 1810tz have higher SU chips for closer to $500.

My ideal is the MSI x340, but with the SU2300 chip (and not with the lesser SU3500 chip). And I want it for $380 not $580! It has a bigger screen, but is Macbook Air thin and also weighs the same (3 lbs). Alas...

So I am thinking of just getting the AS1410 or the nearly identical Gateway.

Any recommendations before I buy?

Got the Acer 1810T-8638 with the 7300. I'm in love with it.

Shame it doesn't have bluetooth, HDMI out and it only has 2 GB of RAM.

The .5 inch screen size is a plus.

How's the battery life?

You might want to also mention that since it's an ASUS it comes with the express gate so you can instant boot and get on the web via Linux Distro instead of waiting until the laptop launches into Windows 7.

yea, I was looking at the Acer 1810T as well. The asus got me due to lower price....though it is a shame about the HDMI and bluetooth. Anyway, for 13" laptop deals, check out

http://slickdeals.net/forums/showthread.php?t=1637488

people are updating them every once in a while. I'm not sure you'll be able to get a 13" SU7300 laptop for under $400 though (unless you find a TRUE SD!).

how's the battery life on the 1810t?

Yeah, I've read that thread and I added the bit about MSI to the wiki.

I know I am dreaming about a sub-$400 ultra-thin 3lb 13" screen with SU2300 or better. But it sure looks purdy.

Anyway, any more thoughts on Acer AS1410 and how it compares to the nearly identical Gateway EC1435u? Both 11.6", of course.

I don't have any experience with either, but I think Acer and Gateway are the same so they *should* be the same laptop....and gateway is cheaper. Dont' know if they have the quivalent for the 1810T.

Asus had to do something since they're hopeless overpriced in this class. Acer/Gateway (identical I believe) are offering Bluetooth, HDMI, 4GB of RAM, + larger hard drive at the same price point (MSRP to MSRP)

$399 they have SU2300 (more similar to SU7300 than you'd expect) with similar config to the Asus, but with 160GB HD, but HDMI.

No HDMI on the Asus is a dealbreaker, since a nice feature is using this cheap/thin/light notebooks to stream video to the TV.

Which is still more expensive than buying it straight up for $499 from these dudes. They're legit.
