Or consider the Clip plus 2gb at Amazon for $34 (has expandable memory, takes micro SD cards). With 8gb card would cost about $46 total for new model with expandable storage.

Dear SD musicians, this player (the old clip) has a pitch problem that makes anything you play on it significantly flat. Just letting you know as I was pissed when I discovered this on mine and sold it. Sansa has no plans of fixing this problem at this time. The new clip with expandable storage has sort of fixed the pitch problem, instead of playing flat it now plays very slightly sharp!

I'm not an audiophile, but it has enough juice for me to hear while I'm mowing the lawn. Easy interface, drag and drop. Works with the proprietary software my libary uses for audiobooks.

But I still wound up having to pay 12 bucks and I have a broken refurb mp3 player.

sounds like poor engineering on the part of the sound jack. i bet soldering iron could fix it if one has the skills.

All the ones I bought new are awesome, all the ones I bought refurbished were either DOA or broke shortly thereafter.

FWIW, i got a refurbed fuze from woot and it's working great, even after a 10 foot flight and smashing against an elliptical machine at the gym. not the clip, but i'm happy with my refurb.
