is this a good laptop? i jumped on the lenovo price mistake last night (which might get cancelled) and i was thinking about this as a backup

The fact that it's DDR3, essentially a dual core, especially being a 13.3 (see deals on the 11.1 and 15.6 and sometimes 14.1s, but rarely on a 13.3. This just seems to be shaping up to be a powerful, ideally sized (on my 13.3" XPS laptop now), attractive laptop for $550 with no tax (presumably) or shipping.
And thanks peiffiet--changed. |

ohhh this is tempting...ive been looking at the asus ul80vt and waiting for the ul30vt... but this is so much cheaper... although the other 2 have a nvidia card and switchable graphics...

If you would like something even lighter for the same price, take a look at the Acer 1810TX. Same CPU and screen resolution packed into 11.6" Both are highly rated if you can live with an external DVD. |

Note: AS3810TZ-4078 <--- 4078 indicates it's the OLDER version of this laptop and as such, it is NOT a Core 2 Solo, instead it is the single core version. The 2 positive reviews on newegg differ alot from the ones on amazon which mostly complain about software problems, driver issues, and overall sluggish performance. Anyways, caveat emptor oh and 1 of the reviewers hasnt even gotten their laptop yet... =\ |

This is a single core laptop with a processor that is only a little bit better than the Atom found in most netbooks. Please do not buy expecting it to be a good performer. The processor will most certainly be the bottleneck.
If you just want something ultraportable for Internet, email, and light office apps this should suffice. Be warned that it will not handle Flash such as Youtube HD video or any higher def streaming video well at all. Depending on the codecs used, it's barely cutting it for 720p content as well (though it is still markedly better than the atom). |

However, call before ordering to be sure it has the SU4100 Dual-core, and not the older SU3500 Single-core CPU. Probably has the SU4100 because of the newer DDR3 memory and the larger 500GB hard drive. The AS3810 models are available with many different CPUs and specifications, BTW.
