Okay, two weekends ago, I attended the Friends and Family event at Sears. I opted for the 42" 720p 400 series plasma for $549. With my luck, they received a memo that day from corporate (guess they ran out?) and substituted the one advertised for the 450 series.
Thought I had a good deal but now I am second guessing myself. I see that in Best Buy's four day sale, they have a 40" 1080p 500 series lcd for $597. This is the same as what they are offering for Black Friday.
I would love 1080p but the 40" 1080p lcd appears to have less features compared to the 720p 42" plasma. I know that you can't really compare lcd's vs plasmas but I'd like some help to decide what is actually a better purchase. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.
It depends on what it is primarily going to be used for. If you are hooking up your computer monitor or such you should get the LCD. If you are using it for movies in a room with not much light, you should get the plasma. In your case though, I think I would opt for the 1080p and get the LCD. Chances are its going to come in handy even if it doesn't right this second. Especially when you want to hook up your computer to it or show pictures.
By the way, I own a 58" Plasma and love it. I am usually biased towards plasmas but for your situation I would return it.
