SERO transfer
I found someone who is willing to transfer their SERO account to me. Does anyone know how this works? I understand it's called a Transfer of Liability (TOL).Do I need to have a Sprint account (I currently don't have one), or am I just taking over my friend's account (ie, getting his account number, etc, and just changing the name and address on the account to mine)? Will my friend have to pay ETF if he's still in contract when we do a TOL? Can we do this TOL over the phone, or do we need to go in store? If anyone can post the details of how they successfully transferred SERO to someone else - I would appreciate it! (specific cust svc # called, dept you were connected to, specific codes, etc) |

Sero tol
Transfer of liability requires that you create an account with sprint in your name. Either go into a store or call 1 800 639 6111.They will run your credit and then hopefully approve you for an account without a deposit. Once thats done the easiest thing to do is for both parties to go into a corporate store and do the transfer. Proof of ID will be required. I think it can be done over the phone as well but dont know any numbers to call. If the transfer is successful you will take over his contract so no ETF will be charged. |

In most cases, Sprint will try to talk you into adding on their international packages which I forgot how much it cost. The international package basically allows your phone to catch oversea frequencies to make calls. Catching oversea frequency will only work if your phone has the required band builted in. Anywho, don't agree to it as the package is pretty expensive and coverage is not good. After you return, call in to have your service restored. This is where it gets really dirty. If you're trying to restore service and your plan is no longer available (which most likely it's not), you're obligated to pick and sign up for a new 2 year plan. There no way around this, unless you want to get slapped with an ETF - Early Termination Fee. If you do not choose a plan within 30 days, they will automatically choose one for you. It might be the $69.99 Everything plan, since this is their most standard plan for now through 2010. What you should know: Since the SERO plan so old and rates are so low, Sprint finds every reason to get customers off this plan; this is Sprint's only opportunity to do so. For every month your account is placed on hold, your existing contract extends that many month. Remember to ask a lot of question and keep in mind, once they cancel this plan, you can't get it back, regardless if you talk to supervisors, retention, executives.. Good luck. Is it possible to sell the SERO? If I am away for 2 years it will cost $840 to keep a line, that will repay itself in 3-4 years, if Sprint will not kill the deal themselves. But, I also like the data and text, so it will take around 2 years to break even. I also will have to pay the retail to buy the phone set.

You can sell the SERO plan; however, you'll get very little buyers as the general public frowns upon it. Also, if Sprint finds out the account was sold, with no hesitation, they will cancel the line and charge you an ETF. The best thing to do is transfer it to a family member (make sure they do not cancel or upgrade the plan), then come back from your trip and have your family transfer it back to you.

Thanks. This is what happened when I was try to transfer.
When I bought the sero, I purchased the lines on different accounts but on my name. Then they told me at the time of one of activations I was not supposed too and told me to transfer liability to a family member as I did not want to have one account because of a referral. A CSR took our personal information over the phone I made a conference call as we were in different locations but Sprint never knew that and told it will be processed in 7 days, but it never was transfered nor accounts merged. Everything is still under my SSN with different account numbers and separate billing.. Last year a phone gets lost and I called SCR from another my line to manage the lost phone line. However, they detected the line I was called from and turned it down instead of a lost phone (even thought I told them the phone # which was lost). |

Hmmm... That's odd. It's not supposed to take 7 days to process. At most a TOL should take at least 30 minutes (max) to complete and transfer should take effective immediately.
Do this: Call Sprint, tell them you want to do a Transfer Of Liability. Tell them you're leaving out of the country and will not be using the service. Do not let them talk you into placing the account on hold. Let them know you're transferring the plan to a family member so you can be able to retrieve it once you return. Sprint will then call your family member (via conference call) and verify it with them. *NOTE* It's best if they are already a Sprint customer and qualifies for multiple lines. If they are not current sprint customer, your family member needs to open a tentative account prior to the transfer. Sprint will run a credit check and your family may be required to make a small deposit, of course depending on their credit. After the transfer, Sprint will confirm whether it was successful or not. If successful, it takes effect almost immediately (sometimes it may take at longest 10 minutes to update); you can log on to your Sprint.com account and check. If transfer was successful, you should no longer see your SERO plan under "Account Overview". As far as "different account number" goes, you'd better check with Sprint on that. They probably screwed up somewhere which probably explains the "separately billing". Otherwise, it usually takes 1 billing cycle for billing info to update. |
