I'm getting 2.99 shipping for a total of $5.89... still purchased one b/c I need a new mouse and this is cheap.

Seems to me a basic, wired, optical mouse is just about worth $5 these days.

Well for about $5 out of pocket for a basic optical mouse with scroll wheel, I would think this would be a good deal (unless the color clashes with your mouse pad! )

3yr warranty is not too shabby either but may cost more to send back to MS then you paid!

I used to have this mouse. It was pretty nice - the wheel is super easy to spin very fast, so you can scroll through pages without repeated finger effort. Unfortunately, one of the mouse buttons fell off after about 2 years, but MS's warranty service replaced the mouse without hassle.

Had this mouse. It was a great mouse. Served me well. There's better laser ones out there now but this is as good as any other optical you can get. A salute to my old friend.

Coming from the other side of this.... I spent extra for a Microsoft mouse last year, but after a week I went back and bought the much cheaper "generic" mouse at Microcenter. Why? I hated the Microsoft mouse. The scrollwheel was way too fast and couldn't be "tuned" with the control panel software - the smallest increment was scrolling 5 lines on the screen.. Also, the wheel "button" was way too soft, so you accidently clicked something when you merely wanted to scroll.

Others will say they love it. It certainly is an attractive price, but I won't jump on this even to have a spare. YMMV

I'd agree if you added "generic." The fact this is MS makes it worth maybe $10 so it's a pretty good deal IMO.

I've used a bunch of MC's $5 optical mice (brand is Inland I think) and they are ok. Ergonomics and response from buttons and wheel is actually good but I have trouble tracking on LOTS of surfaces, including the white portions of a mouse pad with a logo on it. (I filled it in with a black marker and solved the problem but a mouse not tracking on a mouse pad?) MS's mice seem to have excellent tracking all the way down to the cheap basic ones, whether it's on wood, glass, a mouse pad, a magazine, the couch, or your leg.
