That rebate was to clear some of Canon's old stuff. It has been 2 years since XSi released; a new DSLR is going to be announced in a week or two.

I think XSi will just be fine for the needs. But it may not be available once the new camera goes on sale.

XSi doesn't take video

newegg has the T1i (body only) for $659 right now

If that's the case, why would Canon announce new cameras every year? Why would people look to buy cameras with newer technology?

Just stay real. People like to buy models with new technology, no matter what is sufficient.
