I just clicked through the link and checked the terms... It requires $6,000 combined average balance in order to avoid monthly fees...
Terms as below:

What is The Citibank Account?

It's a Citibank account Pricing Package that offers Interest or Regular Checking —plus free services including online bill payment.

Here's a quick rundown:

Balance $100 minimum opening deposit1. To avoid monthly fees, you need to maintain a $6,000 combined average balance — an easy goal to reach. Why? Because so many accounts go toward it: Checking, Savings, CDs, Money Market, Lines, Loans, Mortgage and Brokerage (to qualify, accounts must be linked to your ATM/Debit Card.)2
Monthly Fee None if you meet the required balance. Otherwise, the fee is $9.50 for Regular Checking and $12 for Interest Checking (it's $12.50 for Regular Checking and $15 for Interest Checking in CA, NV, FL, IL, DC, VA and MD).

base on the reward point system, i would say 20k points is equal to ~120 bucks.

You can get $100 gift cards for 10k pts so 20k pts is worth $200 in gift cards if you buy two $100 gift cards. Smaller denominations cost more per dollar.
Problem is it seems they either run out of $100 gift cards at some stores or don't offer them for all stores.

Click on the stores to see the rates of redemption:

ie. Macy's Gift Card - $100
10,000pts

Only if you can find a card worthwhile for you. They have successfully cleansed all interesting gift cards (IMO, obviously) from the system over the last year. Now, they have a lot of items (which are shipped from amazon btw) you can get, but they are almost double the regular price in amazon, when you consider 100pts=1dollar.

In other words, they effectively reduced the purchasing power of the points constantly over the last year(s)...

A lot of retailers don't offer $100 gift cards. You have to buy two $50 cards which are 6000points each, thus equaling 12,000 points. In fact, Walmart only offers a $25 card for 3500 points. When I first joined years ago, Amazon actually was a participant with the thanyounetwork, but has discontinued.

Thx OP
Fine print says avail to CITI members who received the communication, not avail to existing Citi checking customers, 1offer per customer. Did OP get this USPS? Wonder if it is avail anyway if not received & if to CITI members (like me) who have closed their Citibank accounts but still have TYN thru CIT credit cards>>>> any thoughts?

I love the lowes/HD gift cards....Yeah it's 12k / $100, but I've easily gotten over $350 worth of gift cards between the two in 7 months using the Citi Forward credit card.

Yeah I called, immediately talked to somebody, and was off the phone within a minute. $6000 is a nogo. I suppose if you already have $6000 with them it's ok, I'm not going to lock up $6000 at a measly rate for a long time to get 20,000thank you points. That money can work harder for me in a reward checking account.

citi is the lowest interest rate for savings and checking I have compare to five banks I do business with. Also have the thank you points and they seem to get less sponsor offers and the offers seem to get worst.Example a $50 gift card cost 6000 pts. Citi and smith barney Stinks in my humble opinion
