I don't think this is meant to be a main drive on a system. It's more for HTPCs or home servers to simply store files.

That is what I will be using it for but to each their own. If someone wants to use it as a main drive then by all means. Laptops have used 5400 rpm drives for many years now and people have not complained about using them as system drives. If people think that 5400 rpm is too slow for a system drive then why stop there. They should not even use 7200 rpm drives when they can get raptors and ssd's which are much faster.

i have to drop my $0.02.

I have two of these in Raid 0 as my system/storage drive for my HTPC. These things are unbelievably fast.

Coming from two WD640 to these samsung's, they are quieter, cooler and just as quick.

BUT as with all Samsung drives, you can only do one thing at a time, multitasking on any samsung drive is nightmare. When i am copying two large files from the HTPC to my server, the samsung crawls and makes me want to cry. I learned to do only one thing at a time with the HTPC.....
