Vast majority of these certificates require either purchase of 2 entrees or set a minimum $ limit that is close to the price of 2 entrees.

These are a GREAT deal to eat out at fancy places without paying too much.

I usually take out my family and my fiancee's family once a year to a decently nice restaurant and let me tell you, a $100 certificate for $8 (80% off $40) is one heck of a deal.

I give a good tip if I get good service. It's that simple. I don't liked to be forced/required into giving a 18% gratuity tip if the service is lousy/terrible. Also, I don't need to order $100 (or $200) worth of food between myself and spouse (and be forced/required to pay the $$$ gratuity plus $$$ in sales tax). If I did that, I would probably be spending actually a LOT more than I normally would! Also, I typically use local coupons that state: b1g1 free entree, free appetizer when ordering two entrees, etc. that I get for free from mailers, online printable coupons, newspapers, etc. Restaurant.com doesn't normally sell GCs for national chain restaurants (i.e. Texas Roadhouse, Olive Garden, Red Lobster, etc.). I can get discounted GCs from my alma mater's alumni association.

There are sometimes other restrictions that the participating restaurant places on the restaurant.com's gift certificates.

Restaurant.com isn't for everyone. I purchase occasionally from these 80% deals, just to try new restaurants around my area that I haven't even heard of because they don't advertise in my paper/mail, etc. There is a great one I've found that is $25 off a $35 check (requires 2 entrees, doesn't include alcohol, blah blah), that I buy for $2. It's great to be able to treat yourself and a special someone (or family, whatever) and know that you'll walk out spending $20 for everything -- tips, soft drinks, entrees, etc.

In other words, stop threadcrapping. If you don't like the deal and prefer your Chili's and crazy-chain restaurants, go for it.

BTW: There's a reason these coupons have had to start including gratuity into the bills -- because people abuse these and then leave a few dollar tip instead of being honest and decent customers. Most people that argue about the included tips ARE the cheapskates *ahem*. If you want to argue a horrible service, go to the manager after you get your bill. Whether you leave a tip or not, horrible service should be brought up to management, anyway, whether or not the tip is included in the bill, right?

The deals from restaurant.com are overrated and usually cause me to pay more in the end that I want for poor service and low quality food. If a restaurant offers a coupon on this site it is probably not a "fancy" or a "decently nice restaurant."

Tips are voluntary, never legally required, and the amount is at the discretion of the patron being served. 18% is traditionally only added for parties of 6 or more. Most people that argue about tips know that the restaurant is the cheapskate by paying their servers $3.00 an hour and having the customer make up the difference.

Restaurant.com works great if you can find restaurants that you like. I buy them like crazy for the pubs that let you use them to buy alcohol. ($35 of booze + $7 tip + $2 for coupon - $25)= $19 yessss

Don't even bother getting into debates about tips, it's a very worn out story.
