I purchased this camera in December, just before my wife and I took a vacation in Jamaica. The pictures are OK. One thing I found lacking was when taking video at a distance, it didn't focus well. My wife took video from the shore while I water skied. I wasn't expecting any close-ups out of a 3x optical zoom, but I did expect the image to be clear. It didn't focus well. Am I expecting too much? Anyhow, I returned it to Amazon and am back to using my old SD1000.

It's good but not as good as the comparable A-series.

A1100IS = 4x optical zoom, 12.1MP, 2.5in LCD uses 2 AA batteries
SD1200IS = 3x optical zoom, 10MP, uses rechargeable batteries

They're both really good cameras, and the "larger" A series still fits in an average sized pocket. The wife commandeered the SD1200IS that I bought for her father and gave her the A-series got her

Personally, I'm a fan of AA cameras since if you're in the back woods of FengJie, Weiterode, or wherever, someone will probably be able to spot you a pair of AAs
