The Frys deal was okay (tax for most of us) but not great... on the other hand, being able to get it from a B&M is one less shipping opportunity to bang a drive,,, can be worth the tax :-)

As always with a shipped drive (no experience with MWave shipping drives) - run the manufacturer's diagnostics just to be safe - for Hitachi "Drive Fitness Test [hitachigst.com]" this is the CD version.

Download, burn the iso to cd, pop it in the optical drive, attach the HDD and boot from the CD. Another crude DOS interface but it works well.

(Yes there are other diagnostics - g'head and use what you prefer - the main advantage to the manufacturer's is that is what they use first to authorize RMA's)

the MWave link lists this as the "Deskstar 7K1000.B" but the model number is "HITACHI HDS721010CLA332"

The HDS721010CLA332 is the C version (newer - runs cooler and more energy efficient.)
