Check for a recovery partiion first before you get a disk. What I recommend is that you download windows vista from a torrent site or whatever (check comments to make sure it is reliable) and burn it to a disk. This is not illegal, bypassing the validation process by using a fake key is. Using your valid key, you should be able to install windows no problem, but check for a recovery partition first.
to get at the hdd-based recovery on a toshiba vista laptop that didn't come with restore/reinstall media.... see http://www.csd.toshiba.com/cgi-bi...088&ref=EV -- what you're looking for is the 'toshiba recovery wizard' which is mentioned towards the bottom of that article.
you can also make recovery set in windows, or order them from toshiba (costs about $20-25)... either one of these would be highly recommended, as it'd be the best (and valid/legal/etc) way to get windows back on your laptop if the hdd dies.
once you have windows restored, the crap cleaned off, windows updated and your basic set of apps installed (e.g. office, firefox, etc...).. i'd recommend making an image (using ghost, true image, etc) to dvd-r or external hdd so you can revert back to that point, if ever needed, instead of all the way back to a fresh factory restore.
