If the coupon works, this is a decent deal. I have the 1tb caviar black 7200 rpm 32mb 3.0gbps and it's pretty nice. Works wonderfully so I bet this would only be better.

I don't think a spindle drive need SATA3;
even a few fast SSD RAID-ed can't fill that kind of bandwidth
I think it's 64MB cache would be why it's faster than it's slower brothers

I still think this is a good deal tho

TU! I'm building a system right now and was going to order 2 of these exact drives (64mb and all) from new egg for $99 each. There are tons of deals on Seagate drives but the quality is low and I would rather spend a little more on a quality drive that lasts than put up with headaches. I just pulled the trigger on two of these. If I had 4 paypal accounts I would have gotten 4 of them but oh well.

Oh by the way there was tax in CA, ended up being $84.01 with tax.

This will drop in price. If you wait about 5 years I bet you could get this for under $40...

Sorry

I agree, WD went a lilttle overboard with the spec, it is just not practical. That being said, I'd like to see how this one compares to the already proven Samsung F3.

I bought a wd black from newegg 750gb for $60 a week ago.

750 is tons of room for me so I still stand with my extra $15.

still a nice deal.

Don't forget to go through bing.com before purchasing this. Currently, Buy.com is at 4-7% BCB; I haven't received any confirmation from bing yet but it's worth the shot to save a few more dollars. laugh out loud

Same here. I am going to decide between those 2 drives for my storage and grab a SSD for OS and apps.

The hard drive performs right under ssd's: http://www.harddrivebenchmark.net...rives.html it gets an 802 on this list and as you can see it's just about at the top for mechanical drives. Also if you read reliability reports WD's are doing well these days.
