Acer GD235HZ bid 24" Class Widescreen LCD HD Monitor

The Acer GD235HZ bid 24" Class (23.6" Diagonal) Widescreen LCD HD Monitor is 3D-ready* and designed for graphics-intensive viewing, including games, movies and digital photos, and features a futuristic black and metallic orange color scheme. The GD235HZ high contrast ratio of 80000:1 with AcerŪ Adaptive Contrast Management optimizes contrast by enhancing detail and gradation even in very bright or dim scenes.

The 1920 x 1080 resolution of the GD235HZ wide LCD makes it ideal for advanced 1080p full HD gaming, multimedia and productivity applications. Thanks to the rapid 2ms gray-to-gray response time, deviations in transition time are reduced, resulting in high-quality moving images. Additionally, the GD235HZ features AcerŪ OD (overdrive) Technology to improve the gray-to-gray level, which is the most important factor in the moving-picture viewing experience.

Lowest price I've seen for this particular monitor. Is there another 3D ready 24" monitor out there better than this one? any suggestions are welcome.

Possibly the ASUS VG236H 23-inch 3D Display, though I can't say for sure. Review by Anandtech here [anandtech.com].

I ALMOST bought it.

Only problem is that its a TN, and no LED backlight. So if you have an LED monitor already then this one won't be as bright.

I'd rather opt for an IPS screen. I highly doubt ill be using the 3D aspect of this screen too often.

Good price. I'd strongly consider this if it weren't for the tax to CA and NJ. Those are my only options for shipment.

Why would you have almost bought it if you say you wouldn't even use the 3D feature? That would be the one and only reason to spend $300 on this monitor. There are plenty of other non-3D 24" monitors out there for $100 less than this.

Do you need wear special glass to see 3-D effect like when you are watching Avatar?

Because gaming even in 2d is awesome due to the 120hz. There is a pretty huge difference between 60hz/70hz vs 120hz gaming on a PC.

I'm out of the loop on 3D technology.

How common are movies that support the Nvidia 3d Vision?
Seems highly unlikely, but is there a conversion tool available that could convert an non-3d movie to 3d?
What about 3dpr0n (for real!)?

Own this and love it. 120 Hz is indeed awesome for gaming.

will 120hz matter for a game like sc2?

Possibly, depends what you mean by matter. I doubt it will improve your game play but it will sure look smoother. The main advantage is with FPS games as having double the framerate is a huge boost, for RTS games framerate doesn't matter as much.

Also just general desktop usage like moving the mouse or dragging windows looks smoother as well.

I would say yes but not sure about how noticeable it would be for a game such as sc2.

It would be most noticeable in FPS/TPS games.

I have a 3d setup using a different monitor, but i'm using nvidia 3d vision.

3d movies are not that common, there's only a handful out right now, but there's a fair amount of other content out there like, trailers, short videos, etc. Problem is you have to find it. 3d vision is capable of playing 3d blu-rays, so whatever movies are available in 3d blu-ray works for this. the only thing is you may need to get software to play it, TMT3 or PowerDVD 10 with special 3d plugins. Nvidia is coming out with a free player i think, but it's not out yet.

Yes, you can convert 2d movies into 3d. I know TMT3 does this, as does a few other tools. None of it looks anywhere near as good as content created in 3d.

Yes, if it floats your boat, 3d pr0n is coming out. Not sure how available it is now, but where's a will, the pr0n industry will find a way.
