Excellent drive, as I already have two.
However, this is the pretty much everyday price, and certainly not a slickdeal. If not needed, wait until Thanksgiving and these will be pushed in the $75 - $85 range. Also, I see the release of the 3Tb driving this down as well. |

I am looking for a 1 - 2 TB drive for my new build.
I know that I want Western Digital for their reliability. I plan to buy a motherboard with SATA 6.0GB/s and am curious about the benefits of a hard drive like this one compared to a 6.0GB/s hard drive. I'm not talking about a SSD, just a regular drive. Would there really be any benefits? Is the hard drive even capable of 3.0GB/s? In essance, what is the bottle neck, the hard drive or the SATA connection? Thanks! |

Green drives are meant to be used as storage drives. Their benefits are low heat and low energy consumption. Put them in a RAID array for low heat, low energy, low noise, and high redundancy applications. They do not make good system drives. I am sure you can look up benchmarks your self, but physically, no spinning platter hard drive can read or write at the speeds that the connection is listed at. They can transfer data from the buffer at that speed, but there is limited amount of buffer. So, no, there would be no benefit to use these drives with the expectation of getting 6.0 Gb/s transfer rates. |

I think I am going to stay away from green drives and try and get a drive in a retail package! |

Green = 5400rpm where regular (what you should use as a system drive) spins at 7200rpm. Here is a WD green drive in oem packaging Green Drive [amazon.com] and here is another WD caviar drive in oem packaging tooCaviar Black Drive [amazon.com] So non-retail packaging doesn't make a drive "Green" |
