Excellent drive, as I already have two.

However, this is the pretty much everyday price, and certainly not a slickdeal.

If not needed, wait until Thanksgiving and these will be pushed in the $75 - $85 range. Also, I see the release of the 3Tb driving this down as well.

Would there really be any benefits?

Green drives are meant to be used as storage drives. Their benefits are low heat and low energy consumption. Put them in a RAID array for low heat, low energy, low noise, and high redundancy applications. They do not make good system drives.

I am sure you can look up benchmarks your self, but physically, no spinning platter hard drive can read or write at the speeds that the connection is listed at. They can transfer data from the buffer at that speed, but there is limited amount of buffer.

So, no, there would be no benefit to use these drives with the expectation of getting 6.0 Gb/s transfer rates.
