I just bought 2 of those Spinpoints a week or so ago. I was happy with how they shipped them. The drives are in a plastic case which is supported on each side with foam.

You might see good pricing on the Samsung F3EG soon as the F4EG has already been announced.

Question: I have a DVR that I want to drop the 1TB SATA2 drive into...however, the specs on the DVR say that it takes SATA drives and not specifically SATA2 drives.

That shouldn't make a difference, right? I can still use this SATA2 drive in the DVR?

You should be fine. If not many drives have jumpers to let you limit the hdd to Sata1 speeds.

I have bought 20+ hard drives from different sites, and ewiz is the first to send me a dead drive (most likely due to shipping)

if you only buy the hard drive they ship it in a X sized box, if you buy the HD-DVD combo they ship it in the exact same box, i.e. padding is horrible on the HD-DVD combo

I have bought a drive alone from them also, and it works fine

hit or miss, the drive will most likely work when you get it

newegg = large box, horrible padding
tigerdirect/compusa/circuitcity = perfect imo, large box and plenty of padding on all sides of drive
ewiz = extremely small box, even padding, however not much padding
ZZF = also great packaging (in class with TD, CC, compUSA)

(all of these are IMO, based on drives I have actually bought from them)
from newegg for example how they package the drive differs from shipment to shipment

Yes, rumor has it that there will be a couple "buy 1, get 1 @$99" deals on the current 2TB's. It's a rumor I started.

How does ewiz do with packaging OEM drives?
I purchased 2 of the Samsung HD154UI 1.5TB drives listed above a couple of weeks ago from eWiz. The drive themselves were in the regular clear, clamshell packaging and were sequencial S\N drives. They were wrapped in one layer of small bubble wrap and put in a box that just contained the 2 drives stacked on top of the other with the single layer bubble wrap. One drive was reported by 2 different PC's as bad before even booting into Windows. Samsung's own drive testing utility, ESTOOL, reported the one drive stated as bad by the PC's as having several LBA errors and a RAM ERROR AJ41. The other drive only had the same RAM ERROR but did seem to function. The RAM ERROR said to ERASE HDD and rerun the test and if it persisted to contact Samsung service. The drives had nothing on them but I did a complete reformat(which completely erases the drive and took 5 hours) and retested and got the same errors by Samsung's own utility.

I had to pay to return the drives. A 2 for 2 on drives with errors right out of the box made me concerned and I didn't want to mess with multiple RMA's and return shipping charges, so I requested a refund. The way they packaged them made them like a solid brick and they were shipped UPS with the 6ft. drop rule. I don't know if that had anything to do with it or if the drives were bad from Samsung. Neweggs reviews on these drives in the last few months have not been as good as they were when they first came out. Lots of RMA's with drives that were replaced with other bad drives.

I'm waiting to see if eWiz determines themselves that the drives are truly bad and waives their 15% restocking fee. If they try to charge me the restocking fee and places the drives back on the shelf, I'll let everyone know along with my credit card company. I'm still going to be out the return shipping and have no good drives. The USPS Flat Rate shipping was the best.

They have to come up with a better way of packaging these drives. From what I'm hearing, it's not just one company doing a poor job of protecting HD's during shipping.

Good Luck all!
