$25 Directv credit for being out-of-town
Now, this is not technically a "deal." But definitely a money saver for folks who will be out of town for the holidays.
Like many of you this time of the year, I will be going out of town for 10 days for Christmas Holidays. That's 10 days that no one will be watching Directv at my house. My monthly bill is roughly $90. That's $30 of unused television entertainment. So, I called Directv to suspend my service for 10 days so I could save the $30.
When the automated system asked what I wanted, I said "suspend service." The automated system informed me that the minimum amount of time required for a suspension was 30 days. The system then went back into the main menu. Undettered, I said "cancel service." I wanted to speak to an agent and see if someone could manually put my account on hold for 10 days. I mean $30 is $30.
When the agent came on the line (I'm assuming this was retentions), he repeated the same 30 days minimum requirement. Then I asked him if he could drop my package to the bare minimum for those 10 days. Hesitatingly, he said it was possible. However, that would only result in savings of $22, says the agent. Sure, I replied. That's still good money. Instead, he just offered me a one-time $25 credit. I'm assuming he didn't want to deal with the hassle of changing plans back and forth. I took it!
