Kitchen Cabinets @ Lowes on Clearance 50% YMMV

At Lowes last night they had their in stock Continental Cabinets on clearance in Concord White and Maple for 50%. These cabinets come pre-assembled and seem to be pretty decent quality, just lacking all the bells and whistles of special order cabinets. They would be great for the first house remodel or rentals. I put together a 30 linear foot kitchen for $1000 after I used a 10% coupon. I had to go to two locations to find all I needed but the savings was worth it. Since the selection and some of the prices were different between stores, this is a definite YMMV. Anyone know some decent cheap counter top deals?

If you can do the cutting yourself, you can usually buy granite slaps for MUCH cheaper than buying through a contractor. I purchased 3 8' slabs for around $250 total. These things are HEAVY so you need help and a strong truck. They must be cut with a diamond blade. Take your time and they look great. Thanks for the heads up on the cabinets.

You could always screw down some cement board, then tile over the cement board.

And if you are starting with bare cabinets (no existing countertop) you can cut down some particle board to mount on top of the cabinets. If you go with a high density particle board you really wouldn't even need the cement board. I would still put cement board up for a backsplash and just butt up against it.

I've got a sister who might be interested in the cabinet deal as she is trying to finish a salon in her basement. I'll let her know and try and take a look at the local Lowe's on my way home. Were these cabinets in the clearance area or just in the stock location and marked as clearance?

I can't remember if it rings up that way or if they had to override, but you may look around for the signs and try to get an even better deal. If you've already bought, just go in with your receipt.

You can also score the laminate countertop, clean it well and then apply the tiles directly on it. I'm going to go down this route when I redo my kitchen.

I didnt score mine. I put down cement board. Looks great.
I even did it on my back splash behind the stove.
