It has been discussed in the previous 8800 GTS 320MB thread, but required 15% E&A coupon, and now discount is auto, just like for the 320MB version

Dell has Evga GeForce 8800 GTS 640MB version video card for $439 - auto 15% off - 10% off with PayPal - $30 rebate = $305.83

Other stores on pricegrabber [pricegrabber.com] have it for $380 with a $30 rebate available for some

The benchmark is only for older games. Newer games will use more, but then again the 8800 will be obsolete when the new games come out.

The whole "high vs. low" resolution debate is a moot point. The two games I've seen suffer from the reduced memory are BF2 and Quake 4. And Quake 4 sucks. Just play it on hign instead of Ultra. Ad for BF2, the frame rate, even at extreme resolutions is very playable. You won't notice it.

As for those saying the 640mb is more future proof, they are barely correct. The problem is, the GTS will be to slow for the 640mb to make a difference. The only card at this point that is future proof is the GTX. Buy cheap, like a GTS 320, and then buy a 9000 series or next gen ATI card in a half a year, and ebay or trade in (EVGA step up) the 320. Unless you really want to play at extreme resolutions, and can somehow afford a $1000+ monitor but not a $500 GTX, get the 320.

But $306 is very appealing for that 640mb. Still a very good deal, at only around 50-65 more after tax. It's usually closer to $100 more.
