Looks like that will be the A3, and you probably won't be getting any free DVD's with it. Whatever floats your boat.

A3 is the newer model..and cheaper..and the 5-free DVD offer is valid for all Toshiba HD-DVD player models, until 2/28/08..still seems like a better deal...

you know the story with the 5 free dvds right? it is the most nightmarish rebate in history. you have people waiting 8 months to hear their selection is "out of stock."

I'd definitely hold out for the A3 at Sears on Black Friday. The A3 will have two movies as pack-ins. "The Bourne Identity" and "300" will be included. The 5 free HD DVD mail-in rebate will also apply, although as was mentioned, the fulfillment of that offer leaves a lot to be desired, so I wouldn't factor that too much into it. Just enjoy watching two of the best movies released in high definition which will be in the box with the player!

I bought it at circuit city with transformers for $246 , but I have an coupon from ebay for $40 off and will get the DVD player + Transformers for $206 with NY 8.5% Sales Tax. Really not a bad option for those who don't want to try to brave the crowds of Black Friday.

Took me 7 weeks to get my 5 free the first time, 9 weeks the second time.

Never heard of anyone taking 8 months (I think that's a bit of exaggeration)..

I'm just curious, is this rebate problem only with HD-DVD?
I remember when I got my PS3 and sent the rebate form out. I received my 5 Blu-Ray movies within 10-20 days and they were in perfect condition.

So, I'm wondering if the problem is with HD-DVD and the people they picked to handle their rebate process. It's a shame that no one is complaining. And please, don't say that they were free so no one should complain. If you have to buy, in order to get something along with it, then it wasn't free in the first place.

You are aware the form says 6-8 weeks on it right? Most people get theirs by 8 weeks, so officially it isn't a problem. Sure there may be some, but it's a minority. People act like every person takes months upon months upon months to get them.

I think a lot of people exaggerate on how long it takes to get their stuff, or they forgot when they really sent it in.

also be aware that this model is not full HD (1080p) hardly noticable probably, but worth mentioning for those with full 1080p HDTVs.

Nah,This particular rebate fulfillment is pretty widely known for long delays. there are a half dozen threads on avsforum on how bad it is.

Not true, it outputs 1080i with all the p flags in the datastream for 1080p to properly deinterlace it to 1080p. You will see no difference on a 1080p set with an A2 (1080i) or A20 (1080p) set.

This has been discussed over 17 times here (by myself).

All HD-DVD movies are mastered in 1080p, this means all the flags are already set on the datastream passed from the 1080i output to your TV. There is no fuzzy logic, and your set deinterlaces it properly every time due to having the existing flags.

End result, the same..
