Go back to that store or another one close by and ask them if they can look it up. Just walk up to somebody in the computer section and say "Hi, I'm looking for a specific hard drive. I think it is an older model, and I don't see it here, but I have the SKU and was wondering if you could look up if there are any other stores in the area that have it in stock". Then give them the SKU (it is on the first page of this thread). They will go to the computer and look it up there, it takes like 30 seconds. Follow them and look at the computer screen too. It also shows the prices that each store has it for. So if they point out that a store has it, ask how much it costs (or just look on the screen). Most likely if any store still has any left they will be more expensive. Then look and see what stores have it for cheaper but out of stock. Buy it from the more expensive store and take it to the cheaper store and do a return/rebuy.
It's not hard, but takes some work in talking to an employee to see if it is in stock anywhere.
!!!!!!!!!CHECK THIS OUT!!!!!!!!! (CALIFORNIA)
Ok guys I went to local best buy and here's what they have in stock check it out !!!!!!!!
NY Availability: There are no stores within 100mi of White Plains, NY that have anywhere near that low a price. And all are OOS anyway, except for 1 apparently in stock in Kingston, NY, for ~$70, which was the lowest price I saw.
NYC: Checked in Best Buy in Midtown. Nothing there, or anywhere close. They sell too well.
jnisme: It's SATA
ebaker: WD7500AAKS Caviar SE16 drive in mine.
Stores PriceMatching this deal.

none of the michigan store have these drives...jus checked it in the RSS screen at my local BB-update:01-15-2008
Per RSS, 2 available in Springfield, PA near Philly. Not sure about price matching. *Update, went to store today, 12/30, none in stock @ Springfield (either the $55 drive or the $99 drive from the other thread). They even checked the RSS for me at the store... no luck! Thanks everyone!
Also, the Best Buy in Deerfield, IL has 1 left in stock for $206.99 and you can PM to $55.99 at another Best Buy near buy. I would do it but its a long drive for me.
North Richland Hills, TX has 5+ in stock at 214.99, you can try to PM to $55.99 at another Best Buy.
OCALA... can you please post your receipt.... or... any receipt in FL would do....
Anyone in Northern Indiana got a receipt for this? Thanks!
This is YMMV deal! (Your Mileage May Vary!) Don't think about this deal if you are not prepared to work for it!

Here is how I have been shopping...
1) Walk into your local BB.
2) If they have the drive, buy it.
3) Talk to the computer counter dude, have him look up the model (8360793) in the RSS system. Peek over his shoulder, you can also see availablility and prices in each store surrounding. He can expand the search too. Take note of stores selling at $55 and which stores have stock.
4) Go buy a drive from BB that has it. (unless you found it in #2)
5) Go rebuy the purchased drives (if you didn't pay $56) at a BB that sells them for $55
Simple process. Just a little time consuming. Where I live, there are about 10 BB's all within 20 miles. Just have to plan your route to maximize your effectiveness and minimize your time and effort spent.
There's the link you need (for everyone else, just take out 8360793 and put in what you do need in terms of a SKU)
Best Buy's online inventory checker is not 100% accurate as it's only updated a few times throughout the day and sometimes it will show 1 being available even if there isn't one.
Also, if you don't see any on the shelf, try checking the Geek Squad service counter as sometimes they put some back there as accessories to sell to people who bring their computers in.
RSS is their inventory system showing stock and price at various locations
Some people have gotten CC to price match, some have not.
Returns over $250 are by check mailed at a later date--consider that when putting on your credit card.
As with all Slick Deals:
DO NOT CALL THE STORE! (You'll just tip off some CSR into seeing the bargain themselves, saying there's no stock, and buying them all up for their buddies.)
DO NOT SAY YOU SAW THIS ON SLICK DEALS!
Best Buy Policy: They do not have to PM clearance items.
That's why this is a huge YMMV. If you can't find a store that has this price, try a return and rebuy at one that does.
Good luck! I haven't had any, but kudos to those that have!
