Do you have any idea the training and knowledge you need to cook in an actual kitchen? It takes more than flipping burgers and grilling some chicken to run a line in a kitchen or to create a menu/specials at a restaurant.. Give it a try for yourself and then come back and tell me it's not a real job.

the parents' of my sis's bf consider chefs and cooks to be not a "real" job.

Lots of training goes into the culinary arts. I mean I doubt all of the people at McDonalds flipping burgers can make food half as good as Todd English or Gordon Ramsey.

Tell them to see if they can find a higher end restaurant and ask the Exec Chef if they can look in for a dinner rush and see what actually goes on.
