Got an email about Sears President's day sale, went to see what they had, found a link to these tool hot buys. Some of them seem like decent buys

I actually like those Craftsman locking pliers better than Vise-Grip brand ones, but watch out for this: See how there is some gold trim at the edge of the black rubber handle? Sears is phasing out these pliers and replacing them with similar ones that have red trim. The gold trim models are really nice made-in-USA tools, the red trim ones are made in China and have noticeably poorer quality when you compare the two side-by-side.

What is the point of this post? If you don't like Craftsman tools, then don't post in Craftsman threads.

If you have something specific to say pro or con about one of these items, then have it. Blanket statements about how you don't like the whole line of tools are not helpful. Craftsman makes thousands of tools, but you don't like any of them????

Not sure where you got that idea. He didn't mention anything in this thread. It was just a generic statement. I've got no problem with somebody saying that the jack sucks because it broke the first time you used it, or anything like that. But blanket statements don't help anybody decide whether or not the items in this thread are a good deal.

It seems like every Craftsman thread, somebody has to jump in and say everything Craftsman makes sucks. It's retarded.

Yeah...but what if you bought the tool to get a screw loose? Making trips back and forth to Sears to get a new tool so you can take it home and break it again while an allen head screw laughs at you will make it a not-so-slick deal pretty quick.

As was mentioned, it's worth your while to check out the tools and see where they were made and what the quality is like before assuming Craftsman is good stuff. I have some high quality Craftsman stuff I've got (made in the US and elsewhere) and I also have some stuff that is rebadged Chinese junk that I didn't realize until after I tried to use it and it let me down. I've learned my lesson and don't buy any Craftsman stuff until I can check it out in person.

That said, not everything made in China is junk either, I've bought a few "cheap" tools for one project or another, that have suprised me just how good they turned out to be. The jack here is one such item, I wasn't expecting much when I bought it when it was on sale once before, but it's performed like a champ.
