can someone answer some questions for me about dell's vostros. I have never checked out the MB so I could use a little clarification if I advise a friend to get one.

I was looking at the BASE Vostro which has a discount.

get it pretty base.. but add:

add 2gb ram. total up to 3gb on the 32 bit processor. ($35 @ clubit Corsair XMS2)
use the on board video - but get the nvidia 8500 for $40 (can't remember if this deal is alive)
add an additional HD - Probably the 640gb WD with dual platters. ($130 or so?)
the intel 2160/2180 should overclock pretty easily

unfortunately the monitor that comes w/ it is analog.. =/

I'm using an antec TP 400W. It gets VERY hot so I leave the side panel off at all time. Other than that, it's a heck of a deal and a great looking machine.

negative, thats why the monitor is called analog - it has dvi input but the machine has no dvi out, so you can only use the analog connection out of the box.

No, only D-SUB. On this slim model, some video cards may not fit properly due to the limited height restrictions. This unit comes with a weak 250w ps and the dvd-rom/burner is slim line, like on a laptop. Upgrades are limited as well.
