Wow, I was considering getting the 500GB AAKS for $104.99 - $20 GCO = $84.99 but this is very tempting.
Those with the $20 off Buy.com Google checkout coupon brings it down to $169.99. |

Pretty good review vs the equivalent Seagate...

I have a couple of these drives in my HTPC and they are extremely quiet and they work perfectly. I highly recommend them. I've just been waiting for just such a deal to stock up on them. In for 5!

This "cavalry" is nothing more than a rebranded Western Digital caviar.
http://www.wdc.com/en/products/Pr...riveID=336 You see the little green power logo on this page? Here is what this means...
This is coming from a guy who's system contains two western digital raptor-x drives and another western digital drive for storage. I wouldn't touch these GP drives with a pole! I'm not married to any HDD manufacturer, I used to have all Seagate drives back around the .7 and .8 revisions. If you want "HIGH SPEED" these days you need to go with Hitachi or Samsung. A recent discussion I had about 1TB drives [anandtech.com] and a Terabyte Drive Comparison Table [tomshardware.com] Last edited by foodfightr; 03-20-2008 at 04:32 AM.. |

foodfightr you can't be more than wrong in how these drives should be used. They are made for home users not high end Raids setup for a NAS or anything. I work at a large corp and we use some 1TB drives (Hitachi) from EMC and really they are what you would want for faster (still 7200) speeds. Yet these drives are upwards of 1grand after controller and such. So for 180$ these drives are perfect for a home user to add for extra storage or just backing up movies, iso, etc. Drive is great for home user in single config or for a home raid. |
