The sound is very "open", with much if the sound being reflected.
Paradigm, Mirage, PSB and others I believe all had access to the data from the Candian government's National Research Council (NRC) and used the results to design their speakers. The implementations are all different, with Mirage speakers being OmniPolar to disperse the sound. I've owned their speakers in the past and have been pretty happy with them. |

I haven't experienced these speakers personally... but Mirage makes some pretty high quality stuff. I'm pretty sure they use Vann's to clear out items that they're discontinuing.
I bought a Mirage s10 subwoofer from Vann's a while back for a ridiculously low price because Mirage was discontinuing their charcoal gray color. It is a spectacular sub. Were I in the market for speakers I'd definitely put some thought into picking these up. |

Anyone able to comment on comparisons with the Polk R50s ? I own the Polks mated with an Athena ASP400 sub and am very happy. Just asking if I can be happier. Thanks in advance
EDIT: My current setup is an Onkyo digital amp TX-LR552 connected to the R50s front and the Athena sub. Am not a surround fan. I will be replacing the Onkyo next week with a HK AVR146. My entertainment room dimensions are 25' x 20'. Can you comment on an AVR146 with the Omni 550s as the fronts in a room of this size, to provide a cleaner soundstage than the one I have now ? thanks Last edited by laidbacklarkin; 04-16-2008 at 02:44 PM.. |

Darn you SD'ers! In the last two days, you've coerced me into using up my entire BONUS from the economic stimulus package, and I haven't even gotten the money from that yet!!
Hope these will go nicely with my new TV! Thanks (???) OP! repped! |

On the downside, it looks like there aren't any matching surrounds left, so if you want to build a 5.1 or 7.1 system, you either need to mix/match brands or use these floorstanders all around. Others have stated that some of the clearance Athena speakers at AudioAdvisor.com use similar drivers and may make a good alternative for a center channel. Search on avsforum.com for more details. |

I also just saw that vanns.com will be getting some of the Omni 350's in and they will be priced at $99.99 each down from $299.99. This is a pre-order thing. I'm pretty sure I don't need the bigger 550's if the quality from the 350's are the same. Anybody know if the 350 is basically a smaller version of the 550? Looks that way from the specs. Thanks!
