Asus P5K-E / WiFi-AP LGA 775 Intel P35 Motherboard $106

Frys.com has ASUS P5K-E / WiFi-AP Socket 775 Motherboard for 99.99, + shipping, starts at $6 for me. You can probably do pick up in store and it may be the same price at B&M. The next lowest on pricegrabber is $139.99 for some place with less than 10 reviews, $149.99 at the egg. This is a great Intel P35 socket 775 motherboard. Apparently the wifi-AP allows you to use the PC as a wireless G access point, which seems wierd, but it has onboard 802.11g anyway.

great deal, I've been using this mobo for 6months and it is fantastic, and it supports a huge range of Socket 775 CPUs, including way back to the pentium 4. was $150 (wifi) at the egg back then, seems like it hasn't dropped much there, but a steal at $100.

Good overclocking board too. I'm at 2.8Ghz with my E2180 no prob.

There's plenty of reviews on the egg, this board is a great value at this price, repped.

This is about my 6th ASUS motherboard, first with problems. Layout is restrictive. Using high end video cards, which are long, cover some of the onboard SATA ports, making them useless. The board advertized compatible with DDR2 1066 mhz. BIOS is not set up for auto detection of 1066 and recommends manual setting. With the Bios version installed, the computer locked up and the battery had to be removed and jumper reset to get the system to work. ASUS tech support blamed the problem on Kingston (listed as compatable) with no help. I did upgrade the BIOS and that has seemed to solve the problem, with manual setup. Soundmax software has limited flexability. Realtech is better.

VERY VERY VERY picky about memory. I tried Geil and OCZ memory in it, and it did not post with either brand, I ultimately got some high end Corsair memory and it finally posted. Be sure to read the Qualified Vendors List in the manual online before buying memory for this board. Also, when you have a large (think 8800GTX) video card in, it blocks the first two SATA ports on the board. NOt really a big problem since there's 6 of them, but I thought I'd let you know.

So, only use ramthat works up to 1066mHz? and also, if you plan to overclock, wont running FSB at 1333 mess up with the ram only at 1066? thanks.

Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. I called both companies, and they said they were aware of the compatibility issues, but did not have a fix. I have tried several BIOSes, too, but it's still fritzy. Manageable, but fritzy. Good deal.
