slomer says: To update you need to get a 2 gig+ download. Also the update will not fit on the unit from the store directly. You need to delete all the languages other than what you plan to use (probably american english) from the voice and text folders and then update works like a charm.. albeit very slowly. Slomer says: another quick update. if you lost voices you need as some people appear to have done you should be able to redownload them using the web updater. The link is here: http://www8.garmin.com/support/do...sp?id=1675 I believe you can also get some languages this way that were not on the stock unit though most of us probably just want to keep british and american english on our device. From what I understand having the other languages voice and text files removed also speeds up the unit a small amount.

If you've tried any type of non-Garmin charger to charge the unit, you've found that it simply enters PC-USB mode, as evidenced by the nuvi connected to PC icon. Even the similar trick that used to work for the 350 (plug in non-Garmin charger, use power key on nuvi to power down at first copyright notice) does not work...well, it does initially, but after a few seconds the unit again enters PC-USB mode.

I've found a way to use any USB charger with the nuvi 2xx series with unit software v3.50 (other versions not tested). This may also work on the 7xx series but I don't have one to test it.

1. Power unit on -without- the power cable

2. After the unit powers up, press and hold the battery icon for ~7 seconds. The unit will enter diagnostics/maintenance mode

3. Plug AC-USB charger cable into unit. Note that the heading "Battery" will now show "Charging"

4. You can now power the unit down via the power switch

5. Upon power-down, "Charging Battery. Slide the Power key to turn on." will indicate that battery is indeed charging

This sure beats having to go and buy a separate charger just for the nuvi and having to rely on only that charger.

Note: I've never seen the "Battery charging complete" message on my 260, regardless of what I've used to charge it...even with my Garmin charger, the message never gets displayed.

Answer:
To free up more space on your nüvi 200 or nüvi 200W, please follow the steps below:

Connect the nüvi to the computer with a USB cable.
Find your My Computer icon and double click on it or you may find it in you Start menu and click on it.
Double click on the nüvi() drive listed under devices with removable storage.
Double click on the Garmin folder.
Double click on the Voice folder.
Delete any unused voice language (be sure to keep your preferred language).
Return to the Garmin folder. Repeat steps 5-7 with Text/Help folders.
After the files are deleted, please run the map update again.
