Read Reviews [newegg.com] on the drive. It's a 4/5 on Newegg. For a hard drive, that is bad news. It seems about 1/5 people lost data on their drive, or it crashed or something. Personally, I'm holding out for a better quality drive.

While there is risk in any purchase of equipment that could be used to store sensitive/vital information, the Newegg reviews you mention DO NOT mean 20% of people lost data or had a drive crash. It means 20% of the reviewers reported a problem, which is a much smaller sample size. Assuming that 4/5 people actually report their drive working. Happy people often don't bother posting reviews while almost all people who got defective people would complain. Not quite the representative sample size; all hard disks have a variable risk of DOA and over a long enough time, their survival rate approaches nil due to their nature of being mechanical.

Don't forget to remove the jumper for 3.0Gbit performance (see thumbnail).
Also, for the adventurous, these drives are one of the few that perform NCQ so make sure and enable AHCI [itwriting.com]. Benefits of AHCI [wordpress.com]

Don't worry too much about the Seagate getting slapped around a bit in those benchies, that was a 7200.10, this deal is for 7200.11
