how do they compare to Bose Companion 2 or Klipsch ProMedia 2.1, anyone?

The 2300's have the same 8" sub, and are THX rated. When I compared the two, the 2300's were louder, but didn't sound as good as far as the mids and highs. If you want volume for parties or rock, go with the 2300's. If you want the best sound at low to mid to somewhat high volume, get the Z's. The satellites in the Z weigh 3x as much. (The Z Cinema retail for $299, the 2300's retail for $149 - $106 is a helluva price for the Z Cinema).
The Z's have a much better remote - perfect if you have a big screen and use Media Center. The remote does everything. The remote alone is probably worth $75. The Bose Companion 2 don't have a sub. No comparison. Plus I hate Bose. Overpriced junk. The Klipsch ProMedia 2.1 were my second choice over the Cinema Z. They were louder, but didn't sound as good as far as midrange or highs. Klipsch are known for that harsh horn tweeter. Fine for rock, not good for a lot of other types of music. The 6.5" sub in the ProMedia didn't go as low as the 8" Cinema Z sub. The ProMedia is also THX certified, which means it will fill a large room easily. You can place any of these subs in a corner and get very good bass. But the satellites are what makes good sound. All have good satellite speakers, but the best sounding by far were these. The Klipsch sound very good but with compressed MP3 music, can sound harsh. The 2300's satellites were IMO the cheapest of the three. They still sound good, but play a Donald Fagan track and you'll see what I mean when comparing the two. |

![]() I also have these and think they're probably the best 2.1 computer speakers you can find. They definitely don't have the mid's you'll get with an actual speaker system, but a good pair of speakers, sub, and a receiver will cost you at least $400+ on deals. Anything less than that isn't really going to compare, especially at this price tag. Now we just need that troll from the old thread coming in and talking about how the z-5500's with their single driver speakers outperform dual-driver speakers in these guys

Thank you very much for the comparison Buckeye. repped.
I've had z5300's for 2 years now, how would these 2.1's compare to them? I haven't really taken advantage of the 5.1 benefits and I'd like to save some desk space/lessen clutter. Would buying these be enough of an upgrade or should I just stick with the 5300's? |
