DEAD: Samsung 50" Plasma HDTV PN50A450 720P $821.64 using Gold box + Free Ship at Amazon
DEAD : Price bumped up to $ 1199, which is quite silly.
Have been on the fence for a 50 inch plasma for a long time. Finally pulled the trigger when I saw the price drop at amazon to $864.88. Ordered at this price and then canceled and did the gold box trick on another account and got it for $821.64. Amazon [amazon.com]'s prices are dynamic, so hurry. Price Comparison on pricegrabber [pricegrabber.com] Gold Box trick: if lookz kill's method: * Sign up for a new Amazon account (This will not conflict with your existing account) * Search for the PN50A450 * Scroll down to the area that says Customers who bought this also bought * Click on Samsung 3 year warranty * After you've clicked on the item, scroll to Rate This Item to Improve Your Recommendations section. Give this item a rating of 5 stars and click the box that says I own it. * At the top of the page, next to your name click We have recommendations for you then click on see all recommendations * Check not interested on all the HDTV's except the this one * Then click on the Gold Box at the top of the page and the TV should be $821 and change |
Great price but hopefully it doesnt have the same panel as a Samsung PN50A400 50" Plasma. I bought one and it gets burn-in real bad. I only paid 720.00 at Best Buy.
|
Whoa, I just had this cancelled at Sears, which charged both shipping and tax -- Amazon has a higher price, but with free shipping and no tax is about $80 cheaper. SD for me
|
Damn, these prices for flatscreens are getting ridiculously cheap.

In my opinion the plasma has deeper richer colors than the LCD. |

sounds like you have Image retention |
Paid $863 a couple months ago at amazon. Applied for their credit card got an instant $50 off as well as another $50 worth of points.
|
I've had this tv since Nov '07. I paid $1425 for mine back then. Just do the burn in stuff and you will be fine. Also, fine tune your color and brightness settings. Images that ghost like the logos on CNN normaly go away between comercial breaks.
|
Anyone know if the Gold Box trick will work if you use the same credit card?? I was going to pull the trigger on the Sears deal but OOS in two states where I might have purchased it.
Thanks OP!! Repped! |
Question
"Burn in??"
What is "burn in???" >>>>"Great price but hopefully it doesnt have the same panel as a Samsung PN50A400 50" Plasma. I bought one and it gets burn-in real bad. I only paid 720.00 at Best Buy".<<<< Also I won't be doing any gaming-just movies (satellite & high def dvd player) and sports. What say you SD'ers? (Don't know much about this stuff but have been waiting a long time to pull the trigger on a Samsung plasma...) Thank you in advance. |
$791.64 after Gold Box Trick and applying for amazon store card. Thanks OP.

Very good deal, btw, assuming you can get the 'gold box trick' to work for you. |

thanx OP.
My old Samsung DLP just kicked it last month. Parents got the Black Friday PN50A400. Delivery would have been this Monday, but not a good day for me. Selected a later delivery, at no extra charge, where I knew I would be available to sign for it.. Consumer Reports rated this model at the top of the 720P plasmas rated in the Mar 09 issue. Only thing rated higher were the 1080P units. Personally, after having read a lot of material about HDTV quality comparisons, I think this TV represents the best quality at this price point, all things considered. |
My brother has the A400 and I have this A450.
The A400 has a different look to it, for example the big circle power button on the bottom. The A400 does have pretty bad IR problems even after being broken in. It always goes away though. I got the A450 back in October for $635 OTD at BB in that famous/infamous deal. Its a phenomenal TV set though. I've compared it to many and as far as its image quality, color, contrast, etc. I have yet to see anything that was a clear cut better picture. I sit about 8 feet away and the HD looks phenomenal. This is a realy good price IMHO. |

I got one in the BB deal too ... but kept the HT
Just ordered this one for Dear Old Dad... Thanks OP! |
If only it was 1080 resolution
|
Sweet deal, finally!
Pulled trigger, this works! Repped. |
I saw it at $864.88 too a few days ago.
Good deal. |

I had the Panny plasma which was popular in '06 (42"screen) from Costco. Now I have the newer version of that tv. It cost me $1,600 in Dec '06. It cost me $670 last month.
I can't imagine having burn-in unless you make a big mistake. I just broke it in for 100 hours (both of them) by leaving the set on HDNet Movies with very dim settings. Obviously I've not had the newer set for long, but no problems. The other set was over 2 years old, no problems. I watched stations with logos (they almost all have them) all the time. Never left it paused on one image for 3 days or anything. "Normal" wear & tear though....no problems. |

if you want to in depth info on this check out it's dedicated thread in the avsforums. I have a viera plasma and never have any problems with IR. I don't play that many games though. |
I bought this tv back when BB sold it as a combo deal, it's a great tv. You wont regret this purchase.
|
Up to 1200 now :/
|
damn you slickdeals, damn you!!!!1111
|
I also pulled trigger on this TV.
I actually own a A400, and it's a great TV. So I decided to buy my parents one too. The quality of A400 is amazing and I expect the same from A450. I've bought 5 HDTVs so far in two years, thanks to my high paying job. I love this economy.... I find deals everywhere. |
.. gloating is such an attractive trait.
unless you're being facetious, then nevermind. |

the camelcamelcamel graph is starting to look like a heartbeat monitor. :) If I did't get hit with a $55 tax, I'd probably pull the trigger... I hate myself for not getting the $799 Fry's deal with free shipping... *sighs*. |
I pulled the trigger on this deal and now I am hoping it goes lower in the next couple weeks
greedy ***** |
it probably won't go any lower.. until the next model comes out.. the PN50b450..i wonder what the difference would be.
I love amazon. |
did you guys get these already? Mine was supposed to arrive on Monday, but now it's changed to Wednesday.
|
I'm getting mine on monday, though it was to be delivered on tuesday.
|
I'm scheduled for Tuesday night.
|
Can you deny the white glove delivery? I like to set things up myself.
|
I don't see why not. I am just going to have them put it on my entertainment center.
|
Listening to all of you guys with your new TVs.... uhhh... this is making me want to pull the trigger (@newegg to avoid sales tax).
|
TV looks fantastic! Using these settings right now (Copied from AVS thread) with exception of contrast down to 50 for break in period.

|
How's the glare? Do you guys have any windows on opposite walls? I'm a tad concerned about this...
