Sorry, I don't know much about home theater systems at all, but I'm trying to find one for my cousin. Not many reviews out there for this Yamaha DVX-700. I'm not sure how I'd go about comparing it to the Bose 3-2-1 [samsclub.com] 2.1 system that he was looking at?

Yamaha designed this system specifically to be a more expensive but better performing choice than the Bose 321.

I have never heard the system, but the Yamaha folks are very good at audio. I can't promise it is a lot better than the 321 Bose, but for the $275 shipped price, I think most folks considering a 321 system would be nuts not to jump in on this deal.

Slick Deal! In for 1! Thanks OP. Was looking for a nice sound system.

Definitely a great deal even if the Bose 3-2-1 is possibly nicer.

It reminds me of that dress on Seinfeld.

What dress? When I see those speakers, all I can do is look to the cookie. [youtube.com]

I am looking for good speakers for the HDTV I'm going to be using as a monitor in my home office -- I don't really need a DVD Player, but it seems that the speakers are the desirable component here -- is that correct? Would these be suitable for PC speakers?

No problem. :)

Glad I could help.

To those asking technical questions and about comparisons... I can't tell you much, but I can tell you this, my friend has a Bose "soundbar" and he's also got this, he said he prefers this one much more. But, audio systems are to each his own. What sounds good to one ear, may not sound good to another.

Is this better than the Sony HTSS360 system?

Why go with 2.1 ? Listening to many different systems over the years, the 5.1 systems will outperform any 2.1 system.

I think the main reason would be space. Many people do not want a gaudy 7.1 or 5.1 system in their living room. Another possibility is having a small set for the bedroom.

Thanks OP, just what my parents were looking for.

It's not a second system. I think they just do that because the DVD player comes in a separate box. I know cause I ordered one :)

My surround receiver needs to be replaced and I would like to use the existing speakers. I need to be able to hook up 5 surround sound speakers. Will this work? Any pics of the back side of this receiver?

Edit
Never mind. Found a pic of the back and doesn't look like it accommodates a 5 speaker surround system.

informedmember 11-21-2009 06:19 PM

It only has two connections, and they are on the back of the sub. There are good pics on Newegg.
